Nine years ago today, on April 16, 2004, the Tsar Bell was raised at the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius in the town of Sergiyev Posad. Cast as part of a program to replace bells destroyed in the 1930s, the Tsar Bell weighs 72 tons, is the largest working bell in Russia and hangs at about 88 meters in the country's tallest bell tower.
