5 City Policemen Fired Over Brawl

Five city policemen have been fired over a brawl in central Moscow in which two of them beat up a 43-year-old man and slashed the tires of his car.

The policemen were out celebrating the birth of one of their colleagues' children late Saturday evening when they clashed with the unidentified 43-year-old, who had asked them to be quiet, city police said in a statement.

The brawl took place in a yard along Rybnikovsky Pereulok, the statement said, adding that two of the policemen were detained after a local resident phoned the emergency services to complain.

They will be fired in the near future, as will their three colleagues, who didn't take part in the beating but did not step in to prevent the conflict, city police said.
