Border Guards Get New Commander

A former deputy head of the Federal Security Service has been appointed commander of the Border Guard Service.
Colonel General Vladimir Kulishov, who oversaw counter-terrorist operations in the Federal Security Service, has replaced General Vladimir Pronichev as the head of the Border Guard Service, which is part of the Federal Security Service, the border service said in a statement Thursday.
A graduate of the KGB school, Kulishov, 46, spent most of his career in the security services and worked as head of the FSB's branch in Chechnya, Vesti reported.
The Border Guard Service currently has about 174,000 soldiers in its ranks.The service is widely considered to be prestigious and is often featured in action movies.
