Moscow authorities on Sept. 15 will begin charging motorists to cover the city's costs for towing illegally parked cars, Deputy Mayor Maxim Liksutov said Tuesday.
The size of the fee has yet to be determined, he said, Interfax reported. The proceeds will go to the city budget.
Liksutov, who oversees transportation issues for the city, also said a motorist might be allowed to keep the vehicle at the impound lot for free within the first 24 hours after being towed, with parking fees to be charged subsequently.
The city currently does not charge car owners a towing fee. Liksutov said late last year that City Hall was considering charging 5,000 rubles ($161) for the service. That figure did not include the 3,000-ruble fine for the parking violation.
