Tom Cruise Joins Vkontakte

Hollywood star Tom Cruise has launched his own page on Vkontakte, Russia's largest online social network, to promote his new film, "Oblivion," creating a buzz on the Russian Internet and attracting thousands of followers in a matter of hours.

Thecreation ofthe account was announced onCruise's official Twitter account onThursday. "VK.com is aEuropean social network w/100mil users & we JUST launched aprofile," themessage read, followed by" !"— "We'll see you there!" inRussian.

BySunday afternoon, theveteran action hero had about 55,000 followers. "Tom Cruise" hovered atthe top ofTwitter's trend list onFriday. Theactor has 3.7 million followers on Twitter.

Cruise's Vkontakte page contains promotional photographs fromhis new sci-fli flick "Oblivion," inwhich he stars alongside Morgan Freeman andUkrainian-born actress Olga Kurylenko as adrone repairman ona post-apocalyptic Earth.

Cruise, 50, Kurylenko anddirector Joseph Kosinski are expected tovisit Moscow next month topromote thefilm, which premieres inRussia onApril 11.
