An Emergency Situations Ministry plane arrived at Domodedovo Airport early Wednesday morning carrying more than 100 passengers evacuated from the coastal city of Latakia in Syria.
Seventy-six passengers were Russian nationals, while 10 were citizens of Ukraine. Six were from Belarus, four from Kazakhstan, six from Moldavia, and one from Uzbekistan, Mayak reported.
Thirty-nine of the passengers were children, nine of them infants.
In January and February, the Emergency Situations Ministry evacuated 176 Russians and CIS citizens from the conflict-torn country, where a civil war has been raging since March 2011.
The UN has estimated that more than 70,000 people have died as a result of the conflict and more than 1 million people fled to neighboring countries.
According to data from the Russian consulate in Damascus, there are 5,300 Russian citizens currently residing in Syria, but that excludes citizens with dual citizenship and citizens who have not registered there, meaning the real number could be much higher.
