Theáblacklist ofáRussian officials toábe punished under theáU.S. Magnitsky Act will be published this month, aáU.S. Embassy official was quoted as saying.
Howard Solomon, deputy minister counselor forápolitical affairs atáthe embassy, told aároundtable ináthe Golden Ring city ofáKostroma that theáso-called Magnitsky List ofáRussians implicated ináhuman rights violations will be published ináMarch, RIA-Novosti reported Thursday.
The Magnitsky Act requires U.S. President Barack Obama toápublish aálist ofáthose responsible foráthe death ofálawyer Sergei Magnitsky andáother alleged human rights abusers within 120 days fromáthe date theábill was signed intoálaw.
Obama signed theábill intoálaw onáDec. 14, meaning theáWhite House is required toápublish theálist byáApril 13. Theálaw contains aáclause allowing theápresident toákeep secret any names he deems necessary foránational security reasons.
Individuals onáthe list will be barred entry toáthe United States andáwill have any U.S. assets they own frozen.
The passage ofáthe Magnitsky Act has triggered aáseries ofátit-for-tat actions byáWashington andáMoscow, including aáRussian ban onáadoptions ofáRussian orphans byáU.S. parents.
