Gazprom Unit Raided

Police have searched the Perm office of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz and found the documents they needed for a criminal investigation involving suspected embezzlement worth 25 million rubles ($820,000), the regional ministry said Wednesday in a press release, Interfax reported.

A ministry employee was unable to give Interfax information as to whether the desired documents had been found.

Law enforcement sources told Interfax that the searches have to do with a criminal case filed by the police against a former executive of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz and an ex-deputy of the legislative assembly of the Perm region, Andrei Agishev. According to the website of the Interior Ministry's regional branch, a criminal case was opened under Article 160 of Chapter 4 of the Criminal Code (large-scale embezzlement through abuse of power).
