Snowboard Races Canceled in Sochi Due to Warm Weather

SOCHI — Snowboard World Cup races at the Sochi Olympics venue have been canceled because of warm weather.

Organizers first postponed the parallel slalom races for an hour on Friday at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park then canceled them because of deteriorating snow conditions.

In Thursday's races, snowboarders struggled on an icy and bumpy course but the snow became more loose on Friday.

Unusually warm weather earlier in the week also forced the cancellation of slope-style races. It was not immediately clear whether snowboard cross, scheduled for this weekend, would be held.
