YEREVAN, Armenia — Officials in Nagorno-Karabakh said an Armenian soldier was killed by a sniper near the no-man's-land separating the disputed territory from the rest of Azerbaijan.
Nagorno-Karabakh and some adjacent territory have been under the control of Armenian soldiers and ethnic Armenian local troops since the end of a six-year separatist war in 1994. A wide demilitarized zone separates those forces from Azerbaijani forces.
Both sides report frequent shooting and attempted incursions from the other side.
The Nagorno-Karabakh defense ministry said Saturday that a 37-year-old soldier on duty at the zone's edge had been killed by sniper fire from the other side.
