Pirate Chase Kills One

SAN'A, Yemen -- A Yemeni fisherman was killed and three were wounded during a Russian operation to foil an attempted pirate attack on a Dutch container ship in the Gulf of Aden, two Yemeni officials said Thursday.

The officials said the fishermen were shot when a Russian Navy helicopter opened fire at three suspected Somali pirate speedboats trying to attack the Dutch vessel Tuesday.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it had no information about the claim. (AP)

Police Fail Road Test

Nearly 30 police officers in a Urals town failed a test of the traffic laws they enforce, Sverdlovsk regional prosecutors said Thursday.

As an experiment, 30 traffic officers in Krasnoturyinsk were asked to take the test that learning drivers take, but only one achieved the required 100 percent pass mark, Itar-Tass reported.

"The rest had up to eight mistakes," the prosecutor's office said. (Reuters)
