6 Bodies Found In Chechnya

Six young women have been found shot dead in Chechnya, in slayings a senior investigator said may have been carried out by attackers who believed that the women led "amoral" lives, Interfax reported Thursday.

Three were found Wednesday in the regional capital, Grozny, while another three were discovered on roadsides outside the city, said Mariam Nalayeva, a spokeswoman for the local branch of the Investigative Committee.

The women, aged between 25 and 35, had all suffered gunshot wounds to the head and chest, leading investigators to believe that the deaths may be related, RIA-Novosti reported, citing an investigator on the case. A Kalashnikov assault rifle had been used in several of the killings, Interfax reported.

Preliminary findings indicate the women may have been targeted because they were seen as leading "amoral lifestyles," Interfax cited Viktor Ledenev, chief investigator with the Investigative Committee's Chechen branch, as saying.
