Kiev Coalition Sought

KIEV -- Lawmakers loyal to Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko made frantic last-minute efforts Friday to revive their pro-Western coalition and avoid early elections.

Tymoshenko told reporters that she had met all Yushchenko's demands, which include rescinding legislation that stripped him of some powers, in order to save the alliance. Yushchenko said Tymoshenko's efforts were insincere.
