Families Celebrate The Joys Of Life

For MTThe "Joys of Life" festival is expecting a turnout of up to 20,000 people this year for their family-orientated program, which includes a Pyotr Nalich concert.
Lifestyle magazine Seasons is putting on the "Joys of Life" festival at the city's Hermitage Gardens, offering an array of events focused on all things joyful.

The planned events cover things like the joy of giving presents, the joy of beauty, the joy of creativity and the joy of food.

For those who prefer to find their joy out on the dance floor, there will be lessons Friday in swing and rock 'n' roll dancing, including the twist.

Special attractions for children will include an opportunity for budding filmmakers to get behind the lens to create their own video projects, get their faces painted, or free a hostage princess by joining forces to eat her candy castle prison.

"The theme of this festival is the joy of life," said Olga Sergeyeva, the publisher of Seasons, a sister publication of The Moscow Times.

"For me the biggest joy is to see so many many beautiful, stylish and happy people coming to the festival and spending their weekend with their friends, children and families."

The festival will offer a street set up specially for those partial to the joy of shopping, with antiques from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kiev, Bukhara and London among the items on sale in the various shops and galleries.

There will also be workshops offered by professional decorators, cooks, florists and yoga teachers.

YouTube sensation Pyotr Nalich, who earned his fame with his hit song "Gitar," will perform at 8:00 p.m. Saturday night, while pop band Prime Time is on the bill for Sunday.

This year's event is the fifth for Seasons, and last year's installment attracted 10,000 people.

Organizers are aiming for bigger numbers this time out, with 15,000 to 20,000 expected to attend, from families to performers and artisans. Participants are expected to come from France, England, Switzerland and Ukraine.

"Our festival is big, but very homey -- it's a cosy event," said Darya Shadrina the director of the festival. "We have invited our friends, people who like to contribute to an atmosphere of beauty and creativity."

Seasons' "Joys of Life" festival runs from Saturday Sept. 20 to Sunday Sept. 21 from noon to 10 p.m. at the Hermitage Garden, located at 3 Karetny Ryad, Metro Pushkinskaya. For more information see www.seasons.com.ru. Admission is 350 rubles.
