Explosion Targets Ingushetia's Police

NAZRAN, Ingushetia -- A car bomb exploded outside the regional police headquarters in Ingushetia on Wednesday morning, killing at least two police, officials said.

The blast took place in the parking lot of Ingushetia's Interior Ministry building in Nazran, the republic's principal city.

Ministry and emergency officials variously gave the death toll at two or three officers, with at least three others seriously wounded.

Meanwhile, a squad of Interior Ministry troops fought a gun battle during the night with about 30 suspected rebels in a wooded area in neighboring Chechnya's rugged south, in which one serviceman was killed and five others wounded, the Chechen Interior Ministry said Wednesday.
