New Deputy CEOs Named at Norilsk

Norilsk Nickel said Thursday that it has offered Alexander Popov, chairman of the management board at Rosbank, the new position of first deputy CEO.

The appointment, along with that of several other deputies, is the first reorganizational step taken by Norilsk's new chief executive, Sergei Batekhin.

Norilsk, the world's largest nickel and palladium miner, is 30 percent owned by billionaire Vladimir Potanin. He tightened his control this month by becoming chairman and overseeing the appointment of close ally Batekhin as CEO.

Popov will oversee economics, finance and investment policy, as well as supervising Norilsk's overseas assets.

Batekhin told reporters that Yevgeny Potapov had been appointed deputy chief executive for production and development of exploration projects.

Other deputy CEOs include Viktor Sprogis as head of sales, Igor Klochko as head of fuel and energy and Kirill Parinov as head of corporate, proprietary and legal matters.
