Search Seen of Cosmetics Chain L'Etoile

The Moscow head offices of the country's biggest cosmetics retailer, L'Etoile, were searched on Tuesday, Gazeta.ru reported Wednesday, citing a source.

No further details were given.

A spokeswoman for L'Etoile said its offices and stores were working as normal Wednesday and refused to comment on any reported raid.

Interior Ministry spokespeople denied that their officers had been involved in searches at the firm's offices, RIA-Novosti reported Wednesday.

The report comes after the January arrest of Vladimir Nekrasov, boss of L'Etoile competitor Arbat Prestige, along with FBI 'Most Wanted' suspect Semyon Mogilevich, over tax fraud.

L'Etoile is owned by Maxim Klimov, ranked the country's 170th-richest man by Finans magazine, with a fortune of $550 million.

The Federal Tax Service pledged to crack down on the country's expanding retail sector earlier this month.
