Technip Gets Shtokman LNG Contract

Gazprom hired French oil-field services contractor Technip SA to help design a plant to liquefy natural gas from the Arctic Shtokman field, Interfax reported Thursday, citing an unidentified person familiar with the agreement.

France's Doris Engineering won the engineering and design contract for offshore drilling, while Britain's JP Kenny will work on plans for the pipeline from the Shtokman field to shore, Interfax said.

Total, which owns 25 percent of the Shtokman project operator, has veto rights on technical questions relating to the development of the field, Interfax said.

Shtokman Development, the operator, plans to start pipeline gas shipments in 2013 and liquefied natural gas exports in 2014, producing 23.7 billion cubic meters of gas a year during the first phase. Gazprom owns 51 percent and StatoilHydro has the remaining 24 percent.
