There's plenty of reason to celebrate over the next week as Russia celebrates Maslenitsa and International Women's Day. Numerous restaurants are marking Maslenitsa, or "pancake week," which starts today and runs through the end of the week. In Arkady Novikov's stable of restaurants, Pepperoni is offering such Italian-style dishes as blini with ricotta and spinach in tomato and Parmesan sauce (380 rubles) and lasagna-style blini with Parmesan sauce (400 rubles). The fashionable Piramida cafe is preparing blini with an eastern twist, served with tobiko and complimentary Chinese vodka (550 rubles), among others. Tsarskaya Okhota is also firing the pan, and besides a regular blini menu, it will be treating guests to complimentary blini, vodka and flavored vodkas during "Shirokaya Maslenitsa" on March 8 and 9.

The Swissotel Krasnye Holmy Moscow hotel is planning three different types of Women's Day festivities. The City Space lounge on the top floor is planning to enhance its panoramic views with pink decorations, a London DJ and special cocktails. Drinks start at 5 p.m., and for 18,000 rubles per couple, guests receive a table for two, a "Pinky-Winky" cocktail, Laurent Perrier champagne and delicacies from the chef. The more formal Concerto restaurant is offering a five-course meal with Veuve Clicquot champagne and a lottery. Dinner starts at 7 p.m., and the price for two is 12,000 rubles. A more modest option can be found in the Cafe Swiss, where a buffet from 7 p.m. costs 2,500 rubles per person. For those with other plans, the Swissotel Krasnye Holmy offers the chance to order a special gift for Women's Day -- handmade chocolates (pictured) made to a unique recipe for every customer. A certificate will be issued vouching for their unique nature, and the confectioner promises not to make the same recipe twice.
