Shimmer and Shine

MTBlesk sparkles with chrome furniture and photos of Hollywood starlets.
After a hard day scouring the enormous Yevropeisky shopping center's fashion boutiques, a girl needs to unwind and refuel -- and that's where the recently opened Blesk aims to please.

Following the archetypal formula of Moscow's fashion cafes, this eatery on the shopping center's ground floor is clearly orientating itself to fashion-conscious teenagers. The two-level interior design features all the old stand-bys. There are transparent tabletops coupled with chrome-plated furniture. The large floor-to-ceiling windows are shrouded with chiffon curtains. The cafe's logo features the silhouette of a skinny model hitching up a short dress; the cafe's name written below has the letter "s" as a dollar symbol. Around the walls hang black-and-white photographs of pop stars and Hollywood actresses, while plasma-screen televisions show music videos.

Naturally, the menu features the kind of dishes young wannabe fashionistas can eat and still squeeze into a size 0 dress. There's the asparagus salad with cherry tomatoes, sweet peppers, and grilled tiger prawns (260 rubles), the near-universal ruccola with prawns (310 rubles) and a vegetable bouquet mixed salad (200 rubles). For those less waistline-wary, there are three varieties of sandwiches (chicken and bacon club -- 350 rubles, beef -- 290 rubles and salmon --260 rubles). For those planning on shopping at Big & Tall next shopping spree, there's a meager selection of macaroni, consisting of pasta carbonara for 300 rubles and fettuccini with three varieties of tomatoes (270 rubles). There are numerous other mains available, including Atkin's-friendly filet mignon for 420 rubles and a steamed trout with vegetables (440 rubles). Of course, there is a selection of sushi, sashimi and rolls.

The drinks menu is extensive and includes a good range of cocktails (all 260 rubles), flaming cocktails prepared at the table (all 220 rubles) and hot cocktails (all 220 rubles). For those willing to risk beer belly, draft brews start at 110 rubles for a half-liter of Kozel.
