No Closer to Treatment

A lawyer for jailed former Yukos executive Vasily Aleksanyan said Wednesday that his transfer to a civilian hospital failed to comply with the European Court of Human Rights' demands.

"The hospital where Vasily currently resides is not a specialist AIDS clinic. Therefore, his transfer was not compliant with the decision of the ECHR," Drew Holiner said in an e-mailed statement.

Aleksanyan, 36, is ill with HIV/AIDS and going blind and says he has cancer of the lymph nodes and suspected tuberculosis. He has been charged with fraud and tax evasion.
